Instructor of Woodwinds
Leonard Grasso is an instructor of all woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon) and piano at Music Education Center. Leonard is currently pursuing a masters degree in Music Education from James Madison University, as well as serving as the music minister at Grace Episcopal Church in Stanardsville, VA. He regularly performs with the Charlottesville Symphony and the Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra on bassoon and contrabassoon. He also freelances as a professional pianist and accompanist, most recently for musicals at Stuart Hall School in Staunton, VA, Orange County High School, Harrisonburg High School, and the Covenant School here in Charlottesville.
Previous to coming to Charlottesville, Leonard taught general music, choir, and band to students of all grade levels in Buena Vista, VA. He received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from James Madison University in 2016, and holds a certification in Music Learning Theory from the Gordon Institute of Music Learning. While at James Madison University, Leonard studied bassoon with Sue Barber and saxophone with Dave Pope.
When he’s not teaching or playing music, Leonard enjoys playing/coding video games, coming in last at trivia night. and trying to get his two cats to like him.
