Ann May

Instructor of Organ & Piano

Ann May has taught private piano and organ at the Music Education Center since it was founded. She enjoys teaching all ages and levels, but especially loves working with teen and adult piano students.

Ann began taking piano lessons herself at age 9 and added pipe organ studies as a teenager. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Pedagogy from the University of Alabama. Ann took graduate courses and furthered her musical studies under the supervision of her organ professor, Warren Hutton, who could trace his teaching lineage back to J. S. Bach! She participated in two European organ tours, where she studied and played on the historic cathedral organs.

As a founding teacher at MEC, Ann has taught countless students, as well as many parents of some of those students! While many graduates of her studio are working professionals in various music careers, several of her past students are certified music teachers on MEC’s staff.

In her spare time, Ann likes to cook, listen to music, read, and do word puzzles. Most of all, she enjoys spending time with her husband and keeping in touch with her four grown sons, two daughters in-law, and five grandchildren.
