Musical Madness (third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students)

  • Compatibly grouped children and their parents continue their musical studies at a more advanced level this third through fifth year of instruction. Vocal and instrumental ensembles demand increased technical facility, as well as an appreciation of articulation, dynamics, voicing, and orchestration. Children study music theory and music history as a part of their weekly lesson. By “senior year,” students perform service recitals and often cooperate on special music research and development projects. Graduates of these classes rank among the top musicians in bands, orchestras, and choirs throughout Charlottesville and the surrounding counties. Classes are 65-75 minutes weekly for 17-week semesters.
